Who I Am
I'm a New York-based writer specializing in client success stories. |
I’m a writer, storyteller, and expert interviewer. When your staff is too small, too busy, or just lacks the expertise to do the writing you need, I can help. You have a story you want the world to hear. I’ll draw on a lifetime of experience—writing, teaching writing, interviewing, and connecting with people from around the world. I’ll connect with you and the other key players in the story you want to tell. Through these voices I’ll showcase the important work you do. Nothing is more powerful to build trust in your organization. Your time is important, so let me bring my skills to the table to give you the support you need. ► I am also a Spanish nerd, a life-long guitar player, a soft-hearted dad, and deeply devoted husband. |
What I do for you
I help you tell your success stories. |
Success stories follow a problem > solution > results storyline and walk the reader through a simple story of human struggle. People facing problems, the support that you provide, and the results they achieve based on your support. That’s a success story, plain and simple. They’re like extended, in-depth testimonials. And everybody loves a testimonial. I write other stuff too: As a storyteller I also write newsletters, web content, blogs, press releases, and one-pagers. But wait! There’s more! I’ve even been seen writing white papers for small businesses! (I’m a former academic after all). ► I can also lighten up your day with witty tidbits, for example, my favorite bumper sticker: “What if the hokey-pokey really is what it’s all about?” See my Services page for descriptions of my work in plain English |
"I cannot say enough good things about Mike. He learned my business. He was as engaged and excited as I am about my work. He was easy to connect with, great with feedback, and delivered a ready-to-use, top-notch case study I'm proud to share with my community.

What makes me different
I'm an expert interviewer and Ph.D. in qualitative sociology. |
I'm a "Top-Rated" writer at Upwork.com with 100% 5 star feedback. I also hold a Ph.D. in qualitative sociology and have conducted over 100 interviews. And believe it or not, I’m also an award-winning professor of ESL writing at two NYC area universities. My journalism-quality writing style means jargon-free, pleasure-to-read prose rich with compelling quotations. ► As Walt Whitman said, “I contain multitudes.” Check out what I can do for you on my Services page. |
Why stories work
Everybody, and I mean every human being, loves a good story. |
Since the dawn of human culture, people have told stories. We are wired for it—nothing communicates better. Oh, and besides all that “human nature stuff,” your success stories can be re-purposed for newsletters, web copy, email campaigns, or what have you. ► And that saves money! Dive into a few stories I’ve written for people like you on my Portfolio page. |
Who I work with
People who make it their business to do good. |
I believe that we all share social responsibility. We as professionals can make a living and make a difference at the same time. I like to work with mission-driven business and nonprofits, but I’m flexible and ultimately, I want to work with people I like. ► Sound familiar? Let’s talk! ** Read testimonials from my clients throughout this site. I bought 'em, you might as well enjoy 'em! |

What’s in a name?
Freelance writer, independent contractor, consultant, oh my! |
The label “freelancer” is controversial. Some love it, some hate it. But I’m not big into labels. I just think of myself as a business owner. Like you, I have vision and expertise, along with a collaborative spirit. I’ll let you know if I see something wrong in your project. I expect you’d do the same for me. See an extended discussion of this topic on my LinkedIn page. |
